1. This is about Protecting personal data

Europacable is firmly committed to respecting your privacy and protecting your personal data. This Data Protection Notice explains how we use and protect personal data when you:

  • visit our website;
  • register for our newsletter, trainings, updates or events;
  • give us your contact details; or
  • correspond with us.

The processing of information relating to identified or identifiable natural persons (“personal data”) collected through this website or otherwise received by Europacable, such as through e-mails, fax, correspondence or registration forms, is subject to EU Regulation 2016/679 (the General Data Protection Regulation) and any national implementing or complementing rules and regulations in Belgium, where our central administration is located. The Belgian Data Protection Authority supervises compliance with the applicable data protection laws.

2. Which information do we collect?

Europacable may, through its website, collect certain information relating to users who visit its website and may, solely for internal purposes, track how users make use of its website. The information collected through the website includes the Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, computer and connection information such as browser type and version, operating system, as well as Uniform Resource Locators (URL) click stream to, through, and from our website, including date and time.

In addition, Europacable may collect and process information of persons who contact us (including job applicants) or register for our newsletters, trainings, updates and events, through the website, e-mail or internet-based services. This information may include: the contact details and other information on business cards, CVs and in electronic signatures, IP addresses, e-mail addresses, passwords and information provided by the person registering for the event and/or the newsletter, and whether you have read the newsletter.

In some cases, your information may be complemented or updated with publicly available information to ensure your contact details and professional information is up to date.

3. How and why do we use your data?

Your personal data are only used to the extent that this is required to pursue the following legitimate interests:

  • to ensure the security of the website;
  • to improve the website’s content and compile statistics on the use of the website;
  • public relations, including the promotion and defence of interests of Europacable, its members and the industry;
  • to ensure legal compliance, investigate fraud or infringements and establish, defend or exercise legal claims; and/or
  • to maintain a contact database of our members and external contacts.

If requested by you, or with your consent, we may also use your personal data (consent may be assumed for existing members):

  • to process your queries efficiently;
  • to contact you for the purpose of providing information on our sector and our activities and developments (including the sending of newsletters, trainings, updates and organising events); and/or
  • to process your job application.

If you have consented to such processing of your personal data, you have the right to withdraw such consent at any time. Please see below for how to withdraw your consent.

We collect a small amount of data about the use of the website. We use the software Matomo for this purpose and it is configured in such a way that the data collection takes place without cookies.

You may choose to prevent this website from aggregating and analyzing the actions you take here. Doing so will protect your privacy, but will also prevent the owner from learning from your actions and creating a better experience for you and other users.

4. To whom can we disclose your data?

Europacable relies on third parties to host and provide technical support for its website and for the delivery of its newsletters. In the context of these services, and only to the extent that this is necessary for the service they provide, these third parties may have access to the personal data processed by Europacable for the aforementioned purposes. In addition, professional advisors and auditors may have access to personal data. Our service providers abide by appropriate confidentiality and other safeguards protecting your personal data.

Under certain circumstances, Europacable may need to disclose personal data to public authorities for the purposes as mentioned above, including to comply with regulatory or legal requirements.

4.1. Newsletter & emails

If you have subscribed to our newsletter or if you are a member of Europacable there is a good chance you will receive emails from us. We will only send you emails which you have signed up to receive, or which relate to the services we provide to you.

To send you emails, we use the name and email address you provide us. Our site also logs the IP address you used when you signed up for the service to prevent abuse of the system.
For our email newsletters we use the service of Rapidmail. This service allows us to track opens and clicks on our emails. We use this information to improve the content of our newsletters.

No identifiable information is otherwise tracked outside this website except for the email address.

4.2. Cookie Notice

The Europacable website uses cookies. A cookie is a small file which is sent by the Europacable server and which is stored on the hard disk of your computer.  It is usually used to identify an individual when that individual is accessing a website. It keeps a record of the site visited and contains a certain amount of information regarding the visit. This website’s cookies are mainly used to operate the website. However, Europacable also uses them to update the website more efficiently and to compile statistics. In addition, third parties could place their own cookies on your device. Europacable does not have any control over the use of these cookies and therefore we refer to the relevant third party’s cookie policy for more information about these cookies.

You can set your web browser to disable or to refuse cookies in the privacy options of your browser, or you can opt out of receiving the performance cookies listed below. If you choose not to receive performance cookies, this may affect your ability to access the Europacable website or parts of it, or to otherwise benefit from the features of the Europacable website.

4.4. Sub-site for CPR (Construction Products Regulation) awareness

For the analysis and profiling of the dedicated website for CPR, we use Mautic, a program that collects, stores and analyses usage data. A cookie is set by Mautic to enable the collection, storage and evaluation of usage data

We will collect IP addresses of users which are shortened to prevent re-identification of the user before the information is stored by Mautic

5. How can you manage/access/delete your data?

You have the right to access your data, have us update outdated information or correct any errors in your data or, if necessary, delete such data or request that we restrict the use thereof. You also have the right to opt out of receiving newsletters or marketing materials from Europacable. With each newsletter, you will have the possibility of unsubscribing or updating your information and preferences.

In addition, you can exercise your rights by sending an email to a.lampasona∂europacable.eu. Please note that we may ask for additional information to ascertain your identity before we comply with your request. If we cannot remedy your concern, you can contact the Belgian Data Protection Authority with questions or concerns relating to the protection of your personal data.

6. How long do we keep your data?

Data about your browsing our website will be kept only for the duration of the session. However, cookies may last longer on your device so we can identify you upon your next visit (see Cookie Notice under 4.3.).

Registrations for events or newsletters will be kept until after the event or until you unsubscribe from our newsletters.

Other personal data that we have will be retained for the duration that is relevant for the purpose as set out above, in accordance to internal retention periods, taking into account contractual or legal obligations and liability that we may have to keep records of our files.
